## Summary

To automate a task with AI without coding, describe it to an agent like Claude Code, let it ask questions and test bit by bit. That is how I set up OBS and a Stream Deck without writing code.

## Key points

- Pick a task with a clear start and end
- Give the context of your setup and let the AI ask
- Test one piece at a time
- Approve only what you understand and keep backups

**How do you automate a task with AI without knowing how to code?** Describe the task to an AI agent that can act on your computer, such as Claude Code, let it ask questions, answer with the details of your setup and test the result bit by bit. That is how I built a panel to control OBS from a Stream Deck without writing a single line of code.

The result: scenes, cameras, microphone, background music, backgrounds and animated lower thirds, all one tap away on my iPad. The process works for other tedious daily tasks too.

## What changes when AI can act on your computer?

A chat gives instructions; you carry them out. An agent carries them out; you check. For complex programs like OBS the difference is huge: instead of following a 40-minute tutorial that does not match your setup, you explain what you want and the AI configures it, asking what it does not know.

The care is the same as handing someone your house keys: the agent asks permission before acting, and you only approve what you understand.

## How to automate a task with AI in 5 steps

1. **Pick a task with a clear start and end.** "Set up OBS scenes to record lessons" is good. "Organise my life" is not.
2. **Give the context of your case.** Your name, colours, cameras, the programs you use. The AI cannot guess your setup.
3. **Let the AI ask.** Claude Code asked questions and I answered. Half the work is that conversation.
4. **Test one piece at a time.** One scene, then the microphone, then the music. If something fails, say exactly what happened.
5. **Save what worked.** Ask the AI to write a guide of what it did, so you can reuse it.

## Which tasks are worth automating first?

- **Setting up difficult programs:** OBS, printers, email, shortcuts.
- **Organising files:** renaming, sorting into folders, converting formats.
- **Recurring reports:** combining data from several spreadsheets every week.
- **Template replies:** quote emails, confirmations, reminders.

Simple rule: if you do the same thing more than once a week and it always follows the same steps, it is a good candidate.

## What are the risks?

- **Computer access:** approve only what you understand and keep backups.
- **Personal data:** do not hand customer data to tools without clear rules.
- **Blind trust:** AI makes mistakes. Test before relying on the automation.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do I need Claude Code to automate tasks?

Not necessarily. For tasks that touch programs and files on your computer, an agent like Claude Code helps a lot. For text and spreadsheets, a chat like ChatGPT or Claude already goes a long way.

### Does it work on Windows?

OBS and Stream Deck exist for Windows and Mac. I did it on a Mac; the conversation method is the same.

### Where can I find the prompts I used?

The [free quick guide](https://www.carlosimlau.com/guia#guia-gratis) (in Portuguese) has 10 tips and 10 prompts, and the [full guide](https://www.carlosimlau.com/guia#apostila) includes the file kit for the AI to follow.

### Can I teach this to my team?

Yes. Automating repetitive tasks is one of the modules of my [AI training for teams](https://www.carlosimlau.com/formacao).
