AI training for companies: what your team should learn first
Carlos Imlau, AI Product Builder · Certified trainer (CCP) · AI applied to work ·
Summary
A team's AI training should start with data rules, then asking well, then real tasks, and only at the end automation. The tool matters less than the method.
- Rules first: what can and cannot go into the AI
- A 3-hour workshop to start; an 8-hour course to leave with automations
- Anonymise data and use company accounts
- In Portugal, certified training in SIGO requires a DGERT-certified provider
Where should a team's AI training start? With rules, not tools. First, what can and cannot go into the AI (customer data, GDPR). Then, how to ask well. Then, real daily tasks: writing, summarising, analysing. Only at the end, automation. The tool (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Copilot) matters less than the method.
I am a certified trainer in Portugal (CCP) and I build software with AI every day. What I teach teams is what I do in my own work.
Why does a team need AI training now?
Because in most companies AI has already come in through the back door: someone uses ChatGPT to write emails, someone else pastes a spreadsheet in "to take a look". Without rules, that brings two risks: customer data where it should not be, and wrong results accepted without checking.
And the tools change fast. In 30 days, AI got cheaper, reached more people for free and started working on its own on the computer. A team that knows the rules adapts; a team that only memorised buttons falls behind.

What should a good AI training programme include?
- What AI does well, what it does badly and what you should never hand it, including personal data and GDPR.
- Asking well: context, examples and answer format.
- Writing, summarising and reviewing documents with the team's own files.
- Analysing data and spreadsheets and turning them into decisions.
- Automating repetitive tasks: forms, emails, reports.
- A practical project: everyone leaves with a real task from their job solved.
Short workshop or longer course?
- 3-hour workshop: to get the team using AI right away, with clear rules and exercises on real work. The best first step.
- 8-hour course (2 × 4 h): to map the team's repetitive tasks and leave with working automations.
Prices and programme are on the AI training for teams page. Online, or in person in the north of Portugal.
What care should you take with data and GDPR?
- Do not paste customers' personal data into tools without a data processing agreement.
- Anonymise before asking: replace names, tax numbers and contacts with examples.
- Use company accounts with reviewed privacy settings, not personal accounts.
- Decide who checks: AI makes mistakes, and a text sent to a customer is the sender's responsibility.
Does AI training have to be certified?
Not always. Portugal's Labour Code sets a minimum of 40 hours of continuous training per employee per year. If the company wants the training recorded in SIGO with a certified training certificate, it must be organised by a training provider certified by DGERT. For an internal workshop, a certificate of attendance is enough.
Frequently asked questions
Does the team need any prior knowledge?
No. The training starts from the work they already do. Beforehand, I ask for two or three examples of tasks that take up their time.
Does it work with Microsoft Copilot?
Yes. I use the tools the company already pays for, so nobody has to change habits or contracts.
Can the training be online?
Yes. It runs online or in person in the north of Portugal. The sessions are taught in Portuguese.
How much does AI training for companies cost?
The 3-hour workshop starts at €450 and the 8-hour course at €1,000. The final price depends on the programme and whether it is online or in person. Details on AI training.
